Elaine qualified as a dentist from Leeds University in December 1986, and was commissioned into the Royal Army Dental Corps in 1987 on a short service commission before taking a medium commission as a dental officer in the Royal Air Force in 1992. She has extensive experience of primary dental care within the military, both in peacetime and on operations, and has served in various operational theatres including the first Gulf War conflict.
Elaine is now the senior dental officer in the Royal Auxiliary Air Force with 4626 (Aeromedical Evacuation) Squadron based at RAF Brize Norton. She has also gained experience within the NHS, private, prison and community dental services as a locum dental surgeon whilst studying for her legal qualifications, and so has a broad knowledge of many areas of dentistry.
Elaine joined Dental Protection in September 2014 initially as a part-time associate dentolegal adviser working two days a week in the Leeds office whilst still working as a civilian dental practitioner for the Defence Dental Services. She joined Dental Protection as a full-time dentolegal adviser in August 2015 and is now employed in the Claims and Legal Department as a full-time dental claims adviser. She also works as a dentist in private practice on a sessional basis.
Elaine is hoping to study for an MBA in law in the near future.
