Recorded webinar: When is a consent form not enough? (SG HK MY)

  • Dates: 18 – 18 Jun, 2020

Date recorded:  Thursday 18 June 2020
Suitable for: Dental Protection members in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia

This is an essential recorded webinar on the important issue of consent. Disputes about adequacy of the consent process is a common cause of complaints and claims. It is absolutely necessary that you are aware of the key issues regarding patient autonomy, obtaining valid consent and its documentation.

The process of managing consent and expectations provides the opportunity to develop trust and understanding with patients and enhance your reputation as a clinician, and the reputation of your clinic. It may also provide the basis for a robust defence should a claim arise.

Join Dental Protection’s Head of Dental Services – Asia & Australasia, Dr James Foster for this one-hour recorded webinar where he discusses the functions of consent and autonomy, free will and choice in relation to patient care. Dr Foster outlines the limited benefits of a consent form, provide ideas for documenting the process and shares examples of ethical dilemmas a clinician may face.

By watching this webinar you will:

  • Define valid consent and how it relates to patient care in the Dental Practice
  • Understand the functions and importance of consent
  • Highlight the limited benefits of a consent form and how we might document the process
  • Discuss ethical dilemmas a dentist might have regarding patient autonomy and consent
  • Explain autonomy, free will and choice in relation to patient care including the concept of ‘informed refusal’
