How Retroactive Reporting Benefits offer peace of mind

If you are currently with a claims-made provider, and are considering joining, or returning to Dental Protection, you can still receive our protection for incidents that happened while you were with your current provider. This extra protection is known as Retroactive Reporting Benefits (RRB) or ‘nose cover’.

Beware the gaps in your protection

Switching to Dental Protection is straightforward, and leaves no gaps in your professional protection. Given the nature of clinical negligence - where claims can arise many years after treatment - any break in cover is a serious concern.

Such gaps can occur if you switch from a ‘claims-made’ insurance policy. Claims-made protection operates only if you are covered both at the time of the incident and at the time of reporting the incident. So, if an incident comes to light after your claims-made protection expires, you can no longer claim if you don’t have ‘nose cover’ from your new provider.

This is why we have introduced Retroactive Reporting Benefits (RRB) which allow you to maintain continuity of indemnity. RRB allow you to report an incident to us, even if it happened while you were insured with another provider. You can then request assistance if the incident leads to a complaint or claim.

If you work in private practice, you can apply for RRB which provide a fixed five-year period of protection. This means that, not only will you enjoy the benefits of Dental Protection membership throughout your future career, you will receive comprehensive protection from claims and dentolegal matters arising from your previous work.
