A missed diagnosis of head and neck cancer can have devastating consequences for patients and their families, and the burden of guilt a practitioner carries for this failure to diagnose can be overwhelming.
During this lecture, Dr Amanda Phoon Nguyen, Oral Medicine Specialist, will guide dental professionals through how to perform a thorough head and neck assessment, and how to identify when referral is necessary.
She will be joined by Dr Annalene Weston, Senior Dentolegal Consultant at Dental Protection, who will explore the dentolegal implications of delayed or missed diagnosis. Using real, de-identified case studies from the Dental Protection vault, Dr Weston will highlight key areas of risk and both Amanda and Annalene will offer practical strategies to help practitioners protect their patients and themselves.
This lecture will help you:
- Refresh your knowledge on conducting comprehensive head and neck examinations to reduce the risk of a missed diagnosis
- Learn how to identify when a patient should be referred
- Consider the consequences of missed diagnoses
- Gain practical tools to help protect yourself and your patients from avoidable harm
This is a must-attend session for all dental professionals.
If you can’t attend in person, you can join the live stream at 11:00 AWST, 13:00 AEST, 14:00 AEDT, 16:00 NZDT.
