Recorded webinar: Managing dental pain with medication – should we ditch codeine for oxycodone, or not? (AU)

  • Dates: 05 – 05 May, 2020

Date recorded: Tuesday 5 May 2020
Suitable for: All Australian dental practitioners

Much has changed over the past couple of years regarding the use of medicines to manage acute dental pain. Codeine has gone prescription only, oxycodone and Cox-2 inhibitors are being encouraged and drug combinations are all the rage. The new third edition, Therapeutic Guidelines – Oral and Dental recommends some new ideas and even the use of analgesics in the context of coronavirus has challenged our usual protocols.

If these challenges have left you wondering whether you’re up-to-date and prescribing appropriately, then this one-hour recorded webinar is for you.

Join Adjunct Associate Professor Geraldine Moses AM, Clinical Pharmacist, for a discussion about current protocols. Associate Professor Moses AM provide clear guidance on how best to prescribe medicines to manage acute dental pain.

By watching this webinar you will:

  • Understand when and how to prescribe oxycodone safely

  • Understand the limitations of codeine

  • Recognise the risks and benefits of different NSAIDS and COX-2 inhibitors

  • Evaluate the safety of ibuprofen in the context of COVID-19

  • Recognise why alternating analgesics is no longer recommended
