Much has changed over the past couple of years regarding the use of medicines to manage acute dental pain. Codeine has gone prescription only, oxycodone and Cox-2 inhibitors are being encouraged and drug combinations are all the rage. The new third edition, Therapeutic Guidelines – Oral and Dental recommends some new ideas and even the use of analgesics in the context of coronavirus has challenged our usual protocols.
If these challenges have left you wondering whether you’re up-to-date and prescribing appropriately, then this on-hour webinar is for you.
Join Adjunct Associate Professor Geraldine Moses AM, Clinical Pharmacist, for a discussion about current protocols. Associate Professor Moses AM will provide clear guidance on how best to prescribe medicines to manage acute dental pain.
There will be the opportunity for real time questions and answers during this webinar.
By attending this webinar you will:
Understand when and how to prescribe oxycodone safely
Understand the limitations of codeine
Recognise the risks and benefits of different NSAIDS and COX-2 inhibitors
Evaluate the safety of ibuprofen in the context of COVID-19
- Recognise why alternating analgesics is no longer recommended
