  • Jasdeep Badyal
    Associate Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS PGCMDE PGCDLE

    Jasdeep qualified from Sheffield University in 1993 and has since been in general practice, working predominately in the NHS. She teaches at Guy’s Hospital and participates in Foundation Dentist training in general practice. Jasdeep is also the current BDA Windsor Chairperson.

  • Janet Barnes
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS MDSc

    Jan qualified from Bristol in 1974 and then worked in general dental practice in County Durham, the West Midlands and Leeds. She gained a Master’s Degree in Restorative Dentistry in 1992 and following a 12-month research project, joined the Dental Reference Service where she worked for 18 years.

    Jan joined Dental Protection in 2011 working as a Dentolegal Adviser.

  • Martin Beaumont
    Claims Manager
    FCILEx

    Martin worked in the legal profession in private practice for some 25 years, including secondment ‘in- house’ to a large insurance company, prior to joining Dental Protection in 2005. Martin is part of the claims team.

  • Nancy Boodhoo
    International Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS FDSRCS

    Nancy qualified at the Royal Dental Hospital in London and obtained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. She pursued a career in oral surgery and restorative dentistry at the Royal Dental, St George’s and the Eastman Dental Hospital, before spending time with British Airways as part of its dental team.

    Nancy now practises part-time in Guildford, Surrey, and lectures extensively in the Caribbean on both medicolegal and dentolegal subjects. She also works closely with the medical and dental schools at the University of the West Indies.

    Nancy originally joined as a Dentolegal Adviser and is now Head of Operations for Bermuda and the Caribbean for both medical and dental matters.

  • Charlotte Boyd
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS

    Charlotte qualified from University College London in 1980 and then worked in general dental practice in London and Cambridge. After a spell in the salaried service, she was appointed as a Senior Dental Officer in the Community Dental Service working in a wide range of primary care and hospital settings. After 10 years in the CDS, she joined the Dental Reference Service and obtained the FGDP Certificate in Appraisal of Dental Practices. Since leaving the DRS she returned to general dental practice and now works ad-hoc sessions in a Dental Access Centre.

    Charlotte joined Dental Protection in 1999 as a Local Dental Adviser and was appointed Associate Dentolegal Adviser in 2012, working in the London office.

  • Michael Butterworth
    Senior Dentolegal and Cases Consultant
    BDS DGDP(UK) MFDS(RCS) LLM FICD  MCIArb

    Michael joined the Medical Protection Society in 1987 after 17 years in general practice, as a member of the Dental Secretariat. He became a Dentolegal Adviser on the formation of Dental Protection in 1999 and subsequently held positions as Assistant Dental Director, Deputy Director and Company Secretary.

    Michael is now Senior Cases Consultant and is involved in managing Dental Protection’s complex cases, coaching new DLAs in claims advice and management and resolving intra-professional disputes (Michael is an accredited mediator with the Institute of Chartered Arbitrators).

  • Caroline Chapman
    Senior Dental Claims Advisor

    Caroline qualified from Birmingham Dental School in 1999 and, following vocational training, has continued to work as a dental practitioner in the West Midlands where she also a member of Dudley LDC. She presently divides her time between general practice and works as a PCT Dental Practice Adviser.

    After working as a Local Dental Adviser and as an Associate Dentolegal Adviser, Caroline was appointed as a Dentolegal Adviser for Dental Protection in 2010.

  • Michael C Clarke
    Head of Underwriting Policy (Dental)

    Mike qualified from Cardiff in 1979 and following various hospital posts, worked in General Practice in North Yorkshire until joining Dental Protection full time in 2000. He has been active in dental politics for many years and is a regular contributor to the dental press. He is a past chairman of the Dental Practitioners’ Association and has had a longstanding involvement in Dental Vocational Training and Dental Team working. He is a former member of the Department of Health’s Standing Dental Advisory Committee and is a past vice-chairman of the British Dental Association’s Private Practice Committee. Recently he was appointed Honorary Vice President of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy. Mike was awarded a Master in Philosophy in Medical Law from Glasgow University in 2004 and is an expert member of the Leeds Research Ethics Committee.

    Mike works full-time in the Leeds office where he advises on a wide variety of UK and overseas cases. He is a member of the Dental Protection lecture team and regularly undertakes lectures and workshops, nationally and internationally. He is Head of Underwriting Policy (Dental).

  • Alan Cohen
    Senior Dentolegal Consultant
    BDS LDSRCS ACIArb

    Alan qualified as a dentist at University College Dental School, London, in 1969, and has worked in general practice for over 30 years, as well as in the hospital service and as a university clinical lecturer. He was a long-serving member of the Barnet Local Dental Committee and was its treasurer for over 20 years.

    Alan joined Dental Protection as a full-time Dentolegal Adviser in 1997 and then became Head of Dental Services (London) before being appointed as a part-time Senior Dentolegal Consultant in October 2011.

    He has lectured in the UK and internationally on many aspects of dentolegal risk management.

  • Elaine Cook
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BChD

    Elaine qualified from Leeds University in December 1986, and was commissioned into the Royal Army Dental Corps in 1987 on a Short Service Commission before taking a Medium Commission in the Royal Air Force in 1992. She has extensive experience of primary dental care within the military, both in peacetime and on operations, and served in the first Gulf war conflict. Elaine now works as a civilian salaried practitioner within the Armed Forces, and maintain my military roots as a Royal Auxiliary Air Force Dental Officer with 4626 Squadron. She have also gained experience within the NHS, Private and Community Dental Services as a locum dental surgeon whilst studying for my legal qualifications, so have a broad knowledge of many areas of dentistry.

    Elaine holds a Graduate Diploma in Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies, she is currently studying for the Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Law and Ethics. She joined Dental Protection in September 2014 as a Part-Time Associate Dentolegal Adviser working two days a week in the Leeds office.

  • Sarah Cree
    Dental Complaints Manager

    Sarah Cree is a Dental Complaints Adviser at Dental Protection. She has worked in primary care dentistry for 23 years. Sarah worked as a qualified dental nurse initially and then as a practice manager in a six surgery practice which provided both NHS and private dental care. Sarah then went on to work with a Primary Care Trust for over five years as an NHS Dental Contract Manager. Sarah’s past experience has given her a wealth of experience in relation to managing and advising on dental complaints.

  • David J Croser
    Communications Manager
    BDS LDSRCS MFGDP (UK)

    David graduated from Birmingham in 1971 and spent a period in general dental practice in the Midlands before establishing a private practice in central London. He co-founded a dedicated dental facility for patients living with HIV disease in London and was the clinical lead for 20 years. His textbook on infection control was published at this time. He has experience of NHS and private practice, the Community Dental Service and corporate dentistry.

    David joined Dental Protection in 1999 and is now the Communications Manager.

  • Leonard T D'Cruz
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS LDSRCS MFGDP(UK) LLM PGC MedEd Dip FOd

    Dr Len D’Cruz graduated in 1989 from the Royal London Hospital. He is a past Chairman of the BDA Young Dentist Committee and examiner for the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners. He is currently a member of the BDA General Dental Practitioners Committee and a non-executive Director of the BDA elected to the Principle Executive Committee.

    Len divides his time between his work for Dental Protection and his own general practice where he is a Vocational Trainer for the London Deanery. He is a Dental Tutor in the Eastern Deanery and a lecturer on the MA Dental Law and Ethics course at the University of Bedfordshire. He has written a book, Legal Aspects of General Dental Practice (Elsevier), and has co-authored a popular guide to the NHS dental contract, Understanding NHS Dentistry and is on the Editorial Board of 'Dental Update' magazine.

  • Caroline Dodd
    Dentolegal Adviser

    Caroline graduated from the Royal Dental Hospital in 1984 and then spent two years in hospital dentistry specifically paediatric dentistry and oral surgery. Following this, she spent six years at the University of California in San Francisco as a Resident in General Dentistry and then Associate Clinical Professor in Oral Medicine. She returned to the UK to complete her master's degree in Dental Public Health at the University of Edinburgh in 1994. She worked for five years in industry as a research Dentist for Proctor and Gamble before moving into general practice in 2000.

    She continues to work as a GDP and has worked for Dental Protection since 2014 as a Dentolegal Adviser. She is just completing her studies for a Master’s Degree in Medical Law ( LLM ) at Cardiff University.

  • Brian Edlin
    Senior Dentolegal and Cases Consultant

    Brian qualified in Glasgow in 1971 and after a house job in Oral Surgery at the Royal London he entered general practice in Manchester where for 27 years he ran two practices carrying out both NHS and private dentistry. Brian was an elected member of the Manchester LDC and reached the position of Vice Chairman until his retirement from NHS practice in 1999.

    Brian joined Dental Protection in 1995 and was formerly Head of Dental Services in Leeds, before becoming a senior consultant in 2014. He deals with both UK and international cases.
