We are pleased to announce a new extension to your membership, designed specifically with the needs of our Hong Kong members in mind.
Based on your feedback, we've developed this enhancement to provide even more value and convenience for members.
The best part? It’s included in your Hong Kong membership at no extra charge. We believe this addition will enhance your membership experience, and we’re pleased to be able to offer it at no extra cost as a thank you for your continued trust and support.
Everything you need to know - explained
Dental Protection membership benefits in Hong Kong now extend to work carried out by members in the Greater Bay area (GBA) comprising of Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province.
Effective dates
This territorial extension will apply to all requests for assistance that relate to incidents or new matters occurring from 1 April 2025.
Issues that arose before this date that relate to your practice in the Greater Bay Area are not included within the extension and you will not be able to request assistance with these.
Not limited to 180 days
Most other insurance providers limit protection for your work in the Greater Bay Area, typically 180 days. Dental Protection offers an unlimited number of days.
At no additional cost to you
As a Hong Kong member of Dental Protection, you can take advantage of this extension to your membership at no extra cost – with no additional subscription fees to pay.
At your next renewal we may contact you to ask you to declare the amount of work you do in the GBA; we will contact you separately to do this, you do not need to take any action to inform us today.
Unlimited indemnity
Members who currently benefit from unlimited indemnity will continue to do so for Hong Kong and now also for any GBA matters.
Where members have an indemnity limit on their membership this will apply regardless of whether the claim is brought in Hong Kong or GBA.
GBA work must fall within your existing scope of membership
Members carrying out practice within the GBA must work within the scope of their current membership both in terms of the type and volume of activity carried out.
There is no sub limit to the volume of work that can be carried out in the GBA.
Underwriting exclusions applied to practice in Hong Kong will also apply to work in the GBA. Please check your latest membership documentation for confirmation of any exclusions that are applied to your membership.
Your registrations
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate National Health Commission (NHC) regulation to practise medicine in PRC, if you want to practise in the GBA. More details can be found at National Health Commission of the PRC.
Without this regulation we will not be able to assist with claims and regulatory matters arising from your practice in the Greater Bay Area.
Tax implications
Dental Protection cannot provide tax advice and is not responsible for any tax implications of your practice in the GBA. However, working in the GBA may have implications for your tax and we recommend that you ensure you understand them and take advice, if you are uncertain, from a qualified tax professional.
