Sliding Doors Seminar Series

Our Sliding Doors seminar series began in 2015 and will be presented over several years to cover not only capital cities but also regional areas of Australia.

The course will be run by Dr Annalene Weston, who is one of Dental Protection’s experienced dentolegal advisers, and Ms Shireen Smith, who brings a wealth of experience as an Australia-based Oral Health Therapist.

Each seminar will focus on one of the common scenarios reported by hygienists, therapists and OHTs in recent times in order to assist them with the future management of similar matters. The aim is to provide practitioners with the skills to handle difficult situations and to put you in control of the situation, based on a better understanding.

The five different scenarios that will be covered over the course of the Sliding Doors seminar series are:

  1. Why didn’t you say so? Consent
  2. Which side are we on? Wrong tooth, wrong site
  3. Gobsmacked Allegation of rough handling or abuse
  4. Stretching the boundary Working beyond the scope of practice
  5. Dirty stories Infection control breach

The seminars will provide a fresh take on many of the key factors surrounding consent, communication and record keeping. The importance of each of these factors in the outcome of an incident, claim or allegation will be highlighted.

Dates coming up:

Saturday 24 February 2018, The Grange, Campbell Town, Tasmania, Which side are we on?
Thursday 8 – Saturday 10 March 2018, Australian Society of Periodontology, Perth (TBC)

More locations will be announced for 2018, including Tasmania and Cairns.

Please contact for further information or to express your interest in any of the upcoming events.

There are five different three-hour clinically-based seminars in the Sliding Doors series which will be run around the country (capitals and some regional areas) over the next few years. Not all of the five topics will be taken to each State, unless requested.

Each seminar provides three hours of clinically-based CPD.
