Dental Defence Service

Dentists working in the armed forces have the responsibility of ensuring that personnel are made dentally fit before being deployed on operational duties. The same clinicians are governed both by their chain of command and by the ethical guidance laid down by the General Dental Council. Although these two systems run on parallel tracks occasionally there may be a perceived conflict in the mind of the dentist who receives an order about which they may feel uncomfortable. Dental Protection's dento-legal advisers are happy to provide advice to any member who finds them self in such a position.

Dental Protection's dento-legal advisers have assisted members in the Defence Dental Services for many years and have a good understanding of the philosophy and protocols in place. The Dental Defence Services have an excellent Clinical Governance protocol and Dental Protection is proud to have been asked to provide risk management presentations to VDPs entering the various branches of the Defence Dental Services.
