What is the procedure with respect of the death of a registered CQC provider?
If the legal entity providing the service is a partnership then the surviving partner must notify CQC, without delay, of the death of the provider in the partnership.
There is a notification form for when the death of a service provider occurs.
However, the situation is more complicated if the provider is an individual, as plans need to be made for the continuation of the service and this information must be provided to CQC within 28 days of the death of the provider.
There is a form to allow the personal representative of the deceased provider to notify CQC of the details of the person appointed to manage the regulated activities (without being registered) plus any other information.
You will see that there is provision for the personal representative appointed to manage the regulated activities without being registered for an initial 28 days with provision for extension of the period for a further year. It is expected that CQC will take a proportionate interest in the provision of the services in this situation.
The relevant section of the regulations is here:

(b) within 28 days of the date of death of their intentions regarding the future carrying on of the regulated activity.
(3) The personal representative of the deceased service provider may carry on the regulated activity without being registered in respect of it:
(a) for a period not exceeding 28 days; and
