Our members enjoy the best of both DPL and the Medical Protection Society#1. DPL can focus upon dental issues and the needs of dental members, while benefiting from the size, strength and experience of the parent organisation. MPS has assets totalling over £1 billion - all of which is owned by and held in trust for our members because we operate on a not-for-profit basis, purely to protect and support the integrity and interests of those same members.
Because the overwhelming majority of UK dentists, hygienist and therapists (more than 7 out of 10) are members of this organisation, it is likely that a similar proportion of UK dental nurses will already be working with, or as an employee of, a DPL member.
These dentists may well have shared with you one or more of the publications that they regularly receive from us. If so, you will already be aware of our longstanding commitment to the team approach to dental care and treatment. we have long believed that dental nurses - and other members of the dental team - have a pivotal part to play in the delivery of quality dental care, in effective risk management and in terms of patient safety.
Risk management is much more effective when it is a team exercise, and reflecting this fact our 2005 Annual Review took as its theme "Working Together - the Team Approach to Risk Management"#2. Inside we have reproduced a few of the articles that appeared there, and in our other publications, to give you a flavour of our philosophy. Our commitment to protecting and supporting dental nurses is nothing new; we made this commitment known many years ago.
The registration of dental nurses with the General Dental Council is happening gradually, and we recognise that different dental nurses will have different indemnity needs, at different times. Whatever your needs, we will be delighted to welcome you into membership of this organisation on whatever basis best suits you.
