From 1 April 2011, each provider of regulated activities will pay a single annual fee to CQC. The fee will cover registration, variation and compliance requirements for all locations.

The date on which a provider will be invoiced is related to the date of registration. This means some providers will be invoiced in April, covering the period from 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012.
If registration is granted after 1 April, the provider will be invoiced once they have received their certificate of registration. The annual fee will cover one calendar year from the date of registration.
CQC has indicated that there will be a further consultation on fees in 2012.

CQC received 767 responses, the majority of which (516) were from the dental sector. Stakeholder organisations ‘expressed a view that fees charged should not be levied on dentists, which is outside the scope of this consultation’. They were also concerned that the level of fees are not affordable for many dentists, particularly those in sole practice.
The volume and strength of response from dental providers made it clear that the providers who responded do not wish to be regulated by CQC and do not want to pay any fees.
CQC take the view that this has influenced answers from the dental sector, ‘which was overwhelmingly negative in response to all questions we asked’.
Many providers shared DPL’s concern about additional fees being introduced in the current economic climate.
