Clinical dental technicians are not one of the listed health care professionals under the regulated activity for 'treatment of disease, disorder or injury' and therefore CQC is unable to register them for that activity.
However, if they are carrying out any other regulated activity, such as 'diagnostic and screening procedures, they must register with CQC.
The registration for this may already be covered if the technician carries out this procedure under the direction of a dentist who is registered for that activity or the provider who employs them is registered for that activity. If that is not the case the clinical dental technician will need to register for it.
CDT members who are uncertain about their position are invited to contact Dental Protection for further advice.
