Dental Protection Highlights Recent Developments in Vocational Training

The latest issue of Trainingmatters is currently being distributed directly to all VDP trainers with the help of the Postgraduate Deaneries. Since its launch four years ago this topical publication, produced by Dental Protection, has become a valued risk management resource for trainers as well as a forum for debate.

Kevin Lewis, Director of Dental Protection said, "Dental Protection continues to support trainers and VDPs alike through our publications and also through co-hosting the Young Dentist's Conference being held in London in February 2008. The popularity of both these initiatives is based on first hand appreciation of the needs of the dental profession. Dental Protection supports you through a life in practice and even beyond; it is only logical that we should also be there for you at the start."

In the latest issue;

Henry Clover explains how Denplan is working to create a second year of mentoring (VT Plus) to provide experience of practising in the private sector.

Janelle Montgomery unveils the prototype of the Electronic Portfolio which Smile-on is developing as an alternative to the paper-based records kept by VDPs.

Alan Cohen looks at the benefits of becoming a serial trainer and the continuity that flows from offering the trainers a contract that is not limited to a year.

The publication also takes a look at the rather grey area of additional UDAs. What happens to any extra UDAs that a VDP might generate after their own target of 1875 units has been met?

Additional copies of Trainingmatters are also available directly from Dental Protection.
