Indemnity Costs Frozen
18 February 2008
For the first time in well over a decade Dental Protection has announced that their UK subscriptions for the year commencing April 1st 2008 will be frozen at the same level as for the previous year. Given the prevailing rate of inflation this represents a reduction, in real terms. The saving will apply to all UK dental membership categories within the organisation but is not applicable to those who are moving into a higher membership category.
Four factors lie behind the decision:
- With over 50,000 members there are now significant economies of scale that can and should be shared with members
- A well-established Adverse Risk Member programme is producing results, and increasing numbers of members are starting to exit the programme having demonstrated an improved risk profile.
- Total assets in excess of £1 billion create a reassuring buffer against unexpected events and this removes some of the upward pressure on subscriptions.
- Dental Protection is not for profit.
Kevin Lewis, Dental Director said, "Being a mutual company owned by its members, we should not collect any subscriptions in excess of those we require to provide for the present and future needs of our members. I am delighted that our current size and strength is such that I have been able to make several new appointments to enhance our service delivery, without needing to reflect this in increased subscriptions this year. It is right and proper that our members should share in the continuing success of their organisation."
