Associate Dento-Legal Adviser
Martin currently works as Assistant Clinical Director for NHS Lothian with responsibility for the Children's Dental Service. After qualification in 1986 he worked in general practice before moving into a career in the Community Dental Service which has involved experience of a wide range of primary care and hospital settings, including care for maximum security psychiatric patients, as well as the setting up of referral services, teaching law and ethics and clinical tutoring in paediatric dentistry. A combination of further studies and experience resulted in completion of a Masters degree in Public Health, the Diploma in Health Service Management and registration as a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry.
An ongoing interest in legal issues led to completing legal examinations as an Intrant in the Faculty of Advocates between 1996 and 2000. Martin has worked for Dental Protection since 2000 both as a Local Dental Adviser and latterly as an Associate Dento-Legal Adviser. He is a regular presenter on a range of legal and ethical issues and has a particular interest in risk management.
