Joe Rich graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1962 and has been in general practice ever since. He has been elected to represent General Dental Practitioners, both locally and nationally at all levels and also served on the Representative Body and the Executive Board of the British Dental Association, and chaired its Ethics Committee.
Joe has always had an interest in dental education and served on the Board of Faculty for the Royal College of Surgeons and the North West Divisional Board. He was a part-time lecturer in the Oral Surgery Department of Manchester Dental School, and is now a part-time Clinical Tutor supervising dental students in an "Outreach Clinic". He is Chairman of the board of management of the Manchester Dental Education Centre.
Elected to the General Dental Council in 1996, he has served on many of its committees as well as being Preliminary Screener. In 2003 the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh awarded Joe the Fellowship in Dental Surgery (ad hominem).
