Dental Protection

Dental Protection Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Medical Protection Society Limited (MPS), the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. Both Dental Protection Limited and MPS use Dental Protection as a trading name.

Dental Protection Limited serves and supports the dental members of MPS, with access to the full range of benefits of membership which are all discretionary and set out in MPS’s Memorandum and Articles of Association

MPS is not an insurance company. Dental Protection® is a registered trademark of MPS.

Medical Protection Society

The Medical Protection Society Limited (“MPS”) is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of more than 300,000 members around the world. Membership provides access to expert advice and support together with the right to request indemnity for any complaints or claims arising from professional practice.

Our in-house experts assist with the wide range of legal and ethical problems that arise from professional practice. This can include clinical negligence claims, complaints, medical and dental council inquiries, legal and ethical dilemmas, disciplinary procedures, inquests and fatal accident inquiries.

Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We do this by promoting risk management through our workshops, E-learning, clinical risk assessments, publications, conferences, lectures and presentations.

MPS is not an insurance company. All the benefits of membership of MPS are discretionary as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association.

MPS Risk Solutions Limited

MPS Risk Solutions Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Medical Protection Society) is an insurance company authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.

In June 2012, MPS made the strategic decision that MPS Risk Solutions Limited would withdraw from the insurance market. All policies have now expired and the main purpose of MPS Risk Solutions Limited is to focus on providing the highest standard of service for claims management, in respect of those incidents that have been notified and accepted under policies that were previously in force.

Cognitive Institute

Cognitive Institute is a wholly owned subsidiary of MPS that provides education to health service organisations and individual healthcare professionals around the world. 

Cognitive Institute’s portfolio of workshops, courses and programmes are designed and delivered by clinicians, for clinicians in the areas of:

  • Clinical leadership
  • Open disclosure
  • Safety and reliability improvement
  • Performance and professionalism
  • Colleague interactions
  • Patient communication
  • Risk management
  • Clinical supervision, teaching and mentoring.

The Institute is based in MPS’s Brisbane office and supports the development and delivery of member education.
