During 2011, thousands of DPL members have taken advantage of more than 50 free CPD events staged across Australia, with a wide range of topics on offer. In response to this overwhelming demand, and the outstanding feedback from the 2011 programme, DPL is further increasing the number of Risk Management workshops and other events it will run in 2012.
In 2011 over 500 dentists attended one of the 28 small group workshops held across Australia. Next year DPL will run 38 of these workshops from April to November in venues throughout Australia, including many smaller, regional locations to give more members access to this world-class material.
There are two titles in the workshop series:
- Mastering Your Risk gives an introduction to risk management, and explains how dentists can reduce their risk by improving their communications skills.
- Mastering Adverse Outcomes teaches dentists how to communicate effectively with a patient after something has gone wrong.
Ken Parker, DPL Australia Director of Operations, said:

Dentists can learn how to reduce their risk of complaints or litigation—while improving patient outcomes—simply by improving their communication skills. We recently received confirmation from AHPRA that the workshops had been approved as suitable CPD for dentists who wanted to improve their communications with patients.
