Kevin Lewis awarded a second Fellowship

9 December 2008

The Director of Dental Protection, Kevin Lewis, has been awarded a Fellowship from the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK). The Fellowship awarded on November 28 complements the earlier fellowship awarded last year from the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

The presentation was made during the first diplomates' ceremony jointly hosted by the FDS(Eng) and the FDGP(UK) to celebrate those awarded the MJDF (Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties) and the Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy.

Kevin has been at the helm of Dental Protection since 1998, overseeing a major period of expansion in membership of the company which now has 52,000 members; more than double the membership when he was appointed as Director over ten years ago.

Commenting on the award, Kathryn Harley, Chair of the DPL Board, said:

"On behalf of the Board of Dental Protection I wish to congratulate Kevin on his second Fellowship. This honour is well deserved and provides continuing recognition of his tremendous contribution to dentistry within the UK and throughout the world."

Kevin Lewis, DPL Director, said:

"I feel very honoured to have received this award, and particularly so because I still feel very much a general dental practitioner at heart. To have been the recipient of two fellowships in the same year does beg the question of whether the college knows something that I don't - but I do hope to continue to serving my profession for many years to come."
